Australia: Gold Coast Bound

The snow had fallen on the mountains overnight, dropping the temperature around Queenstown and creating a magnificent spectacle.

Fresh snow shimmering in the mid-morning sunlight as we strolled the 1.5km to the airport lounge, the easiest transfer we've ever had.

We're excited to be moving again and trading the chill for the Gold Coast's sun, but there is a distinct sadness to be leaving behind this incredible land of volcanoes, earthquakes and the most welcoming people ever.

Gold Coast: Australia

Travelling back in time again was another challenge for Team Two’s Company, with New Zealand three hours in front of here and only ten hours ahead of home, we had that strange tired feeling.

The Gold Coast felt warm and comforting the minute we stepped off the plane, it was like a lovely hug. Unfortunately, that's where the good weather ended as it was teeming down with rain. A short bus journey later and we made it to our apartment.

From the 10th floor window, we had views across the river and a sneaky look to the left brought us crashing waves. Hopefully, the rain will stop by morning, but right now, we’re enjoying the warmer air.

Morning broke after a good night's sleep and we were thrilled to see that the clouds were parting and the sun was making an appearance. As we only had a few hours before continuing to Brisbane, we headed for the beach.

What incredible views of skyscrapers lining the golden, yet strikingly white sands of Kurrawa Beach.

The surf was stunning, waves crashing as they approached the wonderfully soft, powder-like sandy beach.

Lifeguards were already setting up for the day and early morning swimmers were taking advantage of the crystal-clear sea.

We noticed one or two jelly-like blobs and noted that these might be the first creatures to give us cause for concern.

Helen was already contemplating if the water was safe to enter. It didn't take long before shoes and socks were off and she strode a little way out, only to get a quick soaking from an unexpected breaker that snuck up on her.

A truly lovely start to the day, but alas, we had tracks to make. Breakfast called, soon to be followed by trams and trains. Two's company were city bound, and Brisbane's sunshine and skyline await!"
