The nomad spirit doesn't wait for a convenient time. Saturday morning, 6:45 AM, we were out of the door, ready for the next adventure.

There's a particular restlessness that sets in after a few stationary days, a deep-seated urge to move on.
We were initially disappointed to arrive at the station and find the iconic Northern Explorer train had been replaced by a coach, a consequence of recent weather.

But the brilliant cheerio team quickly signed us in and soon we were settled, watching Auckland fade into the distance. It was a lengthy goodbye, circling the city for a good while before we finally hit the open road.
Two hours in and a few minutes from our breakfast stop, things got interesting. We left the motorway and BAM! You honestly couldn't make this up. Our rucksacks were rolling around on the interstate, having clearly staged a great escape.
Bags all over the place! Oh well. At least we've been promised damage compo, a silver lining to the roadside drama!

Once the bags were secured (and the laughter died down) it was time to stretch our legs, the
following pit stops were a delight.

A blissful pie and magnificent muffin for breakfast,

A lovely lakeside picnic lunch!
The rest of the journey was pure magic. The views were simply fabulous, from lower land that felt straight out of the Dales to high-altitude, Hobbit-esque Mountain scenery.

Wellington, we're here! We capped off the 12 hour chaotic coach day with lamb for Helen and a cracking little burger and fries for James, not to mention a surprisingly pleasant APA.

It's safe to say, our nomad life is back in full swing, even if it comes with a side of motorway drama!
