Queensland: Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast & A Little In Between

Two’s Company covered some distance in Queensland, from Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast, from watching sunset from the Sky Terrace to river rides and sensational Koala Sanctuary. We even made it to the Botanical Gardens via the River Cat after a couple of Sheffield Shield sessions at The Gabba.

Arriving early afternoon after leaving the Gold Coast behind, our first Brisbane encounter was Jacob’s Ladder which was a challenge to say the least, it certainly gave our legs a real workout at least three times over the next few days!

Following a quick lunch, we set out to explore and stroll along the South Bank, which was fabulous.

The whole South Bank area was very well laid out for all to enjoy and surprisingly, was home to a man-made beach in the city centre with a very real lifeguard on duty!

Later, as we flagged a little, we headed for refreshment and found them some 30 floors up!

The view over the city and out to the west from the Sky Deck was stunning, along with a glass of something to quench the thirst.

It was certainly a fantastic way to relax as our first evening in Brisbane drew to an end.

Two's Company up and at ‘em it’s Brisbane day two!

Up early next morning we made our way to catch the ferry boat to the Koala Sanctuary. We enjoyed the boats meandering along the river with amazing views of some very well-appointed property.

At the sanctuary we saw some weird and wonderful creatures, many being looked after as some had been found injured or unwell.

Of course there were the koalas, some kangaroos and even an emu.

A kookaburra, freshwater crocs, nasty looking things and a rather large saltwater croc who was huge but appeared to be asleep in the sun, we think?

As we left the animals behind and enjoyed the return to the city via the winding river once more, we agreed, our hope was to see some of the animals in their natural habitat over the next few weeks and who knows with some good fortune.

Oh, the koalas… so adorable.

Next stop was back to the city and straight on a train to a place called Nambour, Sunshine Coast bound, to catch up with Trent Ridell, BCC’s cricket professional.

We just could not miss the opportunity, being a couple of hours south, we simply had to make the journey.

We had a lovely few hours catching up, having food and a couple of beers before rushing back to get the last train out of town back to Brisbane.

Cricket and Gardens

Our final day in Brisbane and an unexpected chance to see some real Australian cricket stars playing in a Sheffield Shield match at The Gabba.

What a fabulous opportunity and so very enjoyable! Even though a draw was on the cards, to experience the stadium and watch some play was memorable.

Our final destination was the Botanical Gardens, surprisingly different to others we had seen. This was more in line with a city centre park that hosted some truly magnificent vegetation and trees.

The one thing that made it uniquely different was the amount of bird life in the gardens. We were astonished not to see one, but two Kookaburras, both appeared quite happy to pose for our enthusiastic photo shooting.

The garden was full of noise, not exactly birds in song, but there were some very weird and wonderful sounds echoing around as the sunset and dusk fell.

The sky suddenly came alive with flying foxes, black, huge, bizarre as they flew from east to west in groups.

It was enchantingly scary to see these monster size bats flying in groups, scary is probably what the locals thought of us as we gasped and pointed and tried our best to capture the spectacle on video… well it was Halloween after all… 🦇 🎃 👻

Brisbane was fun, to say the least and tomorrow we leave early for the next leg of our adventure travelling south!
