Beautiful People & Bush Tuckering Byron Bay Bound!

Heading South

Over the next few days, we are due to head South along the East Coast. Looking forward to seeing several coastal towns, each with their own atmosphere, so we have read. First up is Byron Bay.

Byron Bay: Beautiful People and Bush Tuckering…

It was 3:15 am as we, Two's Company, headed for yet another replacement bus service. The Brisbane early morning air was still warm; party-goers were returning home as we headed to Roma Street coach station.

Several hours later, we arrived in Byron Bay. Not sure if Two's Company quite fitted in; clearly a beautiful people place, so James was happy to head off on the footpaths and hide in the mini outback!

It was such a wonderful stroll. Seeing koalas in their natural habitat was fabulous.

However, a little further up the path, we came across our first snake.

It was quite mesmerising to see its forked tongue flicking out as it slithered over the pebbles, mind you, it was a good safe 2 or 3 metres away.

The views on the walk were fabulous, with the South Pacific crashing waves against cliffs and beaches.

The birds, the flowers, trees and turtles; every moment was full of wonder and spectacular scenery which we had only seen pictures of and dreamt of experiencing beforehand.

A special moment en route had been standing at the most easterly point on the  Australian mainland.

To think there was nothing between us and South America other than the vastness of the Pacific was mind-blowing.

We eventually reached the peak and the lighthouse.

The path back was fun, although snake warnings were ever-present and kept you very much on your toes.

However, our very own "Crocodile DunHelen" wasn’t phased, leaving James to fend for himself as she forged ahead ensuring the path ahead was clear of forked-tongued friends!

The day was capped off with a glass of red, a fine meal of meatballs and pasta and the crashing of thunder and flashing of lightning as a storm rolled in above…

A truly excellent day!
