After touring Europe, the impact of the two world wars is all too evident, far more devastating than anything written about in text books and literature, the impact on the whole of Europe is difficult to comprehend; cities and people totally destroyed.

It therefore seemed appropriate to end our tour with a visit to the Menin Gate.

Previously only seen on tv or through school visits by others. At 20.00 the ceremony began.

There were hundreds of people paying their respects, witnessing the ceremony and some laying wreaths.

There were a number of regiments present with their bands playing as well as a Scots piper. The reading of the Ode of Remembrance and the sounding of the Last Post were poignant and moving.
As the wind gently blew around us and the sun set, we remembered those who gave their lives for our freedom.

What a wonderful adventure you have had. Thanks for sharing and I enjoyed learning some of the history of Europe.❤️Safe travel home. Unfortunately Blake comes home to Australia at the end of the week. ….he is currently in London. The silver lining is he begins his journey as a professional cricketer back in Australia. He was excited to do the Lords tour today.
They gave us our freedom..how precious it is and how grateful we should always be...to so many for such a great sacrifice...how moving that ceremony must be...its good to know that every day and every night at the last post they are remembered...after your amazing travels through Europe and seeing how todays Europe has been forged throughout both great times of prosperity and dark times of tragedy it seems a fitting place indeed to visit before you head home with, I'm sure, thankful hearts and with many wonderful memories of your journey through so many wonderful places...safe journey...T & G 😊❤️
