Our trip across and under the water to Copenhagen from Malmo took just 40 minutes. Upon arriving we realised why we hadn’t been able to find accommodation as the thousands of marathon runners ploughed their way through the city streets.

We looked on with some sympathy (especially with the heat) and great admiration as we recalled our own participation in the Great North Run.

Copenhagen is beautiful, vibrant and colourful. Information dotted around reveals a proud history and celebrates its royal family, tradition and culture.

Wonderful inner-city parkland with a calmness to encourage wildlife through naturally developing quiet habitats, castles, fortresses and a certain little mermaid all enchanted the mind.

The brightly coloured buildings and cafe culture in the Nyhavn area of Copenhagen was vibrant and full of energy, canalboat cruises making their way down to the waterfront rammed full of visitors and sailing past as we enjoyed a drink in the sunshine after out wandering.

Today we head to a quieter place in an attempt to find another side of Denmark after our wonderful experience yesterday.

Hi Helen and James, looks like you’ve had a brilliant time!! We were actually in Copenhagen at the same time as we were watching my step-daughter and her boyfriend complete the marathon!! 😃Look forward to speaking to both soon! Have a brilliant rest of your trip! Xx
A couple of photos- won't say how long ago they were taken! Nyhavn doesn't look too different.
Oh, wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen! I'm not surprised you loved it. I hitch-hiked there from Stockholm with a friend far too many years ago and spring was just springing and flowers were pushing through the remaining snow. It was magical! The hostel wasn't so I hope you stayed somewhere better (not difficult). Happy days!
