Sokolka stopover

The trip from Warsaw to Vilnius looked to be quite lengthy with a very early start, so in need of a bit of down time, we decided to break up the journey on route.  This took us to Sokolka, a small town in north east Poland.

We arrived mid afternoon in glorious sunshine only to realise that as it was Bank Holiday Monday, most places were closed. We managed to find a corner shop, stock up on a few essentials and something to pull together a meal. That done, we headed off for an evening stroll, through the centre and to a local reservoir where the locals were also strolling, fishing  and biking.

The ancient diving platform looked like a relic from the communist past, as did the accompanying buildings.

Some interesting reading about the above:

Sokolka was certainly an interesting little place and served a purpose, replenished and rested, we left early morning for Vilnius.

My word, you've been on the move!! 😃 and to some amazing places...the salt mines looked incredible.. Can't imagine how skilled in salt sculptures the miners were..but the evidence is everywhere in the mines..brilliant! 😃...so many beautiful buildings in so many beautiful places...and then just by chance a stop over in Sokolka with quite a history of its own by the look of it....and much needed time out to rest and take everything in before another adventure .......on to Vilnius!!!
